This residence is in the north-central area of Oak Park in the Frank Lloyd Wright Historic District. The homeowners were seeking a three-season room for family gatherings with views into their generous back and side yards.
An outdoor exterior room was developed for casual seating with a stone terrace defining the space and focusing on the new double-sided fireplace under the existing large catalpa tree.
This solution for the addition was approved by the Village of Oak Park as it is sympathetic with the over one-hundred-year-old house. This was accomplished by the planned continuation of the existing materials and horizontal lines and the extended eave depths which enhanced and maintained the proportions and features of the new addition from the existing house.
