This interior residential remodeling is in central Oak Park, Illinois, a near western suburb of Chicago. The design solution addresses a small existing kitchen in a generously sized house. The newly reconfigured spaces hinged on relocating the Dining Room to an equally spacious area on the first floor. This move allowed the development of a new eat-in multifunctional open Kitchen, a new entry drop-zone and moving the Powder Room to eliminate the door opening into the public space.
New features included an at grade Entry Vestibule to store outer ware and shoes. A path up to a drop-zone with cabinets to store each family member’s personal belongings with a counter to charge phones and to include a potential message board. The Kitchen has multiple work areas, cabinet storage and an island counter which allows for sitting, eating and conversing.
